My Experience with Covid-19

Let me start by saying, what a year to start a new career... Like the rest of the world,  I had no idea what was coming on my way. At first, I envisioned the shut-down to be beneficial to me as it would allow me to dedicate more time on building this new career. However, for the safety of my family and my part-time nanny, we decided to let her go so that we could all isolate on our own. At that time, I had a 2 year old and 5 month old and dividing my time between them and my work became very difficult. I’ll confess, I had no idea how I was going to do it. Of course, my husband was also working from home at the time and doing everything he could to help but it was still a huge challenge.

Come September, my husband tested positive for Covid-19 and honestly, this was the worst two weeks of my life. I was locked in the house with an infant, a toddler, and a highly-contagious husband. I was scared out of my mind that I would get sick too. The only thing I could think about was, who is going to watch my kids if we both have it??? How am I going to stay away from them for two weeks??? Thankfully, after a series of tests, they all came back negative, and the same for both my girls. With that peace of mind, I went on to prepare for my last test so that I could be done and focus on my husband. I stayed up late to complete the final test so that I could give him and my family all the support they needed, while trying to stay healthy myself. Between the stress and the exposure to the virus, I started taking homemade remedies and decided to give them to my husband as well.

Growing up near the Amazon in Brazil, my family always used traditional remedies to cure symptoms. I remember whenever my siblings and I got sick, my mother would give us herbal teas and other concoctions to build up our immune system. I am so thankful to have learned that from her and continued to feed my husband these natural ingredients in an effort to fight the virus. Within 3 days, his cough started to subside, his fever too. The fever was the most interesting to me. It was amazing to see that this holistic method worked when Tylenol didn’t. At his two week check up, his lungs were clear and there was no damage from the virus.

As you’ve probably figured out by now, I am a big believer of Functional Medicine and when explaining it to others, I like to use the analogy of a wilted flower. Instead of spraying it with chemicals, you give it some water and sunlight and in just one day, you start to see some progress. The same can be said for a person with high blood pressure. Instead of taking a pill, you overhaul your diet, reduce your stress and in time, your levels become regulated.

Functional Medicine includes: Acupuncture, Reiki, Herbal Supplements & More.

Let me be clear, in some cases, you can’t say no to Modern Medicine. There are many cases where modern medicine is necessary. But, while many people are living longer through this method, are they really living better? In my opinion the smarter approach would be to try to prevent the disease prior to treating it.
